It was designed for disaster resilience and safety, in consultation with local survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. The center was opened Nov 8, 2014 and used as emergency shelter during Typhoon Ruby/Hagupit one month later.

IDENTIFIED NEEDS THAT DONATIONS WILL SUPPORT:

Additional furnishings like beds, first aid kits, medicines, beddings, toys and learning materials for children, non-food items such as kitchenware, and pails and dippers for the toilets and bathrooms.

There is a need for a second storey to accommodate more people in emergencies. Currently, the building can house 300 people short-term and 20 families long-term. With a second storey, it can hold double that number.
