Maricelly Malave


is WeDpro’s international volunteer since June 2011. She obtained her Masters in Peace Education from UN Mandated Graduate school of Peace and Conflict Studies, UPeace, and her Bachelor of Science from Texas Woman’s University in Government and Legal studies, Minor in History. Before coming to the Philippines, she worked at at a Refugee & Empowerment Services office as an adult instructor teaching ESL, financial literacy, work readiness, cultural transition, and civic responsibility, coordinating adult education programs for the larger Dallas metroplex including a financial literacy program as well as citizenship classes. She taught at the Catholic Charities Refugee Empowerment Services Dallas, Texas. Maricelly is involved with a number of projects and activities of WeDpro, especially with the urban poor, women and youth in prostitution and the Amerasian youth being supported by WeDpro. She also conducts research on prostitution and trafficking issues in the cities of Angeles and Olongapo in partnership with WeDpro’s sister organizations, NAGKA and Buklod. Her language facility in both English and Spanish allows her to be an effective cross-cultural communication skill. While here in the Philippines, she attends advocacy meetings on behalf of WeDpro and participates in projects such as the research on violence against women. She is a member of various international organizations such as Human Rights Watch, UNHCR-United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the IRC-International Rescue Committee, Bhutanese Community of Dallas, Amnesty International, to name a few. She is an avid bird watcher.
