Futures Celebrates the 16 Days of Activism

Aida Santos-Maranan, Managing Director and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of WeDpro, was chosen to be part of the Members of Advisors of the Futures Without Violence (http://www.futureswithoutviolence.org/) during its commemoration of the 2011 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence (November 25 – December 10, 2011).  The Nagkakaisang Kababaihan (NagKa)-Buklod Center partnership was one of the organizations cited for a recognition of their contributions to addressing violence against women.  NagKa or United Women of Angeles and Buklod which translates to Bonding have been partners of WeDpro since the early 1990s.  WeDpro assisted the organizing of NagKa in 1992.

Beginning November 25, Futures Without Violence will recognize and honor 16 individuals and organizations for their innovative projects that deepen the link between promoting women’s health and ending gender based violence (GBV). These advocates are being saluted for their ground-breaking work in GBV health education and intervention, reproductive or maternal health care, HIV/AIDS prevention, and services in post-conflict situations and natural disasters. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence (November 25 – December 10, 2011) is a worldwide campaign that calls for the elimination of all forms of violence against women. For each of the 16 Days, Futures Without Violence will feature an advocate or organization on its homepage in recognition of their groundbreaking work.
